Audra Mcdonald is an exceptional performer in her range of talents and the variety of her talent as a singer and actor. Audra McDonald, the winner of Six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was recognized as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People. The president Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the highest honor in America for her achievements in this field. Her professional career is a success both in recording and concerts and regularly performs at some of the most sought-after places around the world. McDonald grew in Fresno California, where she was raised by a large family that included musicians. When she attended the Juilliard School in New York City, McDonald received training as an opera singer. She won her first Tony Award in 1994 for the Best Performance of an actress who was featured in a show for Carousel and was presented at Lincoln Center Theater. The next four years she was awarded two more Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performance of the Broadway premieres of Terrence McNally's play Master Class (1996) and the production Ragtime (1998) making the record-breaking total of three Tony Awards before the age of 30. In 2004, she took home her fourth Tony in the role of Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and In 2012, she was awarded five awards, including her first-ever in the leading actress category for her title role performance in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. The actress made Broadway the history books in 2014 as she became the top-recognized Tony Award nominee. The role she played as Billie Holiday at Emerson's Bar & Grill which was the part which also served to launch her Olivier Award nominated debut on the London's West End in 2017, was the reason she received six awards. McDonald was introduced to the television audience as a dramatic actress by Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters first 100 years. She went on to co-star with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the critically acclaimed 1999 TV remake from Disney/ABC of Annie and then in 2000 she had a recurring role on NBC's popular series Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald, who won the Emmy Award nomination for 1999 for her performance as a character in an HBO adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit which starred Emma Thompson was seen again on TV networks in 2003 for the political drama Mister Sterling. The film is directed by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. At the beginning of 2006, McDonald joined the WB's The Bedford Diaries. The following year, she became a recurring actor on NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald was awarded a fourth Emmy award in recognition of her part in HBO's film-special of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, in 2016. In 2021, she starred alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale as part of The Bite, a pandemic drama produced in collaboration with Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios. McDonald first played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in the CBS law-and-order drama The Good Wife, in 2009. In 2018 she reprised her role on The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a regular on the series. Her performance was recognized with three Critics Choice Award Nominations. She is a guest star on Julian Fellowes's historical drama The Gilded Age.
